*In 2017, SWIRL began as a leadership competition at St. Wendel. It has now evolved into the nonprofit, The Elite! Students interact and learn from community leaders (ex: Evansville Mayor) then put their new skills to the test in daily real world tasks (ex: create a business).
- First impressions with community leaders including the superintendent!
- Janet Johnson shared her expertise and helped students gain confidence!
- Conferencing with past SWIRL winner to gain some tips for success.
- Evansville Living Magazine editors/writers sharing their expertise.
- Pitching ideas for the Evansville Living Magazine.
- Showcasing an incredible Evansville Living cover designed by participants.
- A behind the scenes look at 14 news and then a challenge to create their own news cast, commercial, and station for a specific year (such as 1978).
- Participants interviewed business owners on Franklin St. to create articles, marketing materials, and more for those companies.
- Budgeting to buy supplies from a past SWIRL winner.
- The PTO needs a new fundraiser! What can we do?
- Fundraiser fair complete with elevator pitches, displays, marketing, and cost/profit analysis.
- Shout out to the owner of Azzip for helping students learn about creating a new business from a spark of an idea!
- TEAMWORK, TEAMWORK, TEAMWORK
- Don’t we all wish we had a chance to practice our interview skills before our first real one?
- It can be tricky to make 30 seconds really count in a radio ad but they rocked it!
- It’s not everyday students have the opportunity to work with professionals from the Crayola Company!
